Awards and Scholarships

Our MOAA Chapter Scholarship and Leadership Program recognizes outstanding ROTC and Junior ROTC Cadets who are in the next-to-last year of the program, demonstrate a high degree of scholastic and leadership ability, and who possess exceptional potential for future military leadership. Each year in April and May, we present MOAA Medals and Certificates to outstanding cadets in their junior year from two University ROTC Programs, and 24 high school JROTC Programs. In October of each year we have a Chapter ROTC Awards Banquet to honor these award winning cadets in their senior year, and present them a monetary award.  Learn more here.

The 2025 banquet was held on 23 October.  We awarded certificates, and a total of $6500 to 24 Junior and Senior ROTC cadets.  Click here to see details and photos from the event.

Academy Send-off Dinner

The Academy Send-Off is one of our premier community relations programs during the year. For the past 15 years, prior to 2020, we have invited the Service Academy Candidates to a dinner meeting to congratulate them and give them a MOAA and community “Send-off.” Due to COVID – 19 restrictions, we were unable to host the joint “Send Off” Dinner with the members of the Las Vegas Service Academy Parents Club in 2020, but we came back in 2021 thru 2025 with successful events.

The purpose of the dinner is to:

– Invite the Appointees to a dinner to celebrate their selection to one of the service academies.
– Demonstrate to the young candidates that they are part of a larger tradition of trained officers for the leadership of the US Military Forces.
– Give Parents Club members and Appointee parents an opportunity to meet veterans who have been educated at the service academies, and/or have served in the US military forces.
– Demonstrate to the parents that candidates will receive a great education at the service academies, and join a long line of career officers who have dedicated their careers to the service and defense of the country.
